The holiday season is here, and I know how easy it is to let healthy habits slip when life gets busy with family, food, and festivities. But it doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing.
Here are 5 simple tips to help you enjoy the holidays guilt-free while staying on track:
1. Prioritise Protein
Start your meals with protein-rich foods like turkey, salmon, or plant-based alternatives. They’ll help keep you fuller for longer and curb those sugar cravings.
2. Hydration is Key
With the colder weather and all the festive drinks, it’s easy to forget water. Aim for 2 litres a day to stay hydrated and energised.
3. Use the 80/20 Rule
Focus on nourishing, whole foods 80% of the time and allow yourself to enjoy treats guilt-free for the other 20%. Balance is everything!
4. Stay Active (But Keep It Simple)
You don’t need to smash a 90-minute gym session. A quick 10-minute workout, a brisk walk, or even dancing to Christmas tunes can keep you moving. SOMETHING IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN NOTHING. Especially at a time of indulgence.
5. Don’t Skip Meals
If you aren't very savvy with saving calories or knowing what to do probably best to avoid “saving calories” for big meals – this often leads to overeating later for those that aren't used to it. Eat balanced meals throughout the day to stay in control.
The holidays are meant to be enjoyed, and with these tips, you’ll feel good without missing out on the things you love.
